Five buses seized, seven lose permits for safety violations
Indore: Five buses were seized and fitness certificates of seven were cancelled during a safety inspection drive targeting passenger buses on Friday. The drive was conducted jointly by Indore district administration and regional transport office.
A joint team, led by SDM Ghanshyam Dhangar and RTO Pradeep Sharma, established checkpoints at Teen Imli square and Ring Road. The inspection focused on critical safety parameters, including emergency exits and unobstructed evacuation routes.
“During the inspection, buses were checked for functionality of fire safety systems, availability of medical kits and speed governors. Verification of documents, permits and high-security registration plates was also carried out,” Sharma said.
During the drive, officials discovered several buses with non-functional fire extinguishers, blocked emergency exits and missing medical supplies. Consequently, authorities recovered over Rs 5 lakh in outstanding taxes and penalties.
Beyond enforcement, the administration provided specific instructions to bus drivers and conductors. Operators were strictly prohibited from transporting inflammable material. Staff were directed to inform passengers about the location of emergency exits and safety hammers.
The district administration stated that intensive checking of public transport, including school and college buses, would continue. Key areas of focus remain overloading, overcharging and strict adherence to permit conditions to ensure passenger safety.
