Hyderabad: A remand prisoner who fled from custody when he was taken to Gandhi Hospital for medical examination on Sunday was arrested by the Chilkalguda police on Tuesday.
The accused, Syed Ameer Hussain, from Bowenpally, was arrested on May 19 by Trimulgherry police in a mobile phone-snatching case and remanded to judicial custody.
While he was lodged at Chanchalguda prison, on Sunday, Hussain swallowed five iron nails, and at around 1 pm, he was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for X-ray examination and medical treatment with escort constables.
“At around 6.30 pm, while undergoing tests and treatment, Hussain requested permission to go to the washroom. He was allowed to use the washroom situated in the ward premises. After some time, it was noticed that the prisoner escaped through the washroom window and fled from the hospital premises,” K Sai Kumar, an escort constable, said in his complaint.
The three-member escort team immediately searched in and around the hospital premises but could not trace the prisoner. On their complaint, a case was registered by Chilkalguda police under Section 261 (Escape from confinement or custody negligently suffered by public servant) of the BNS on Sunday.
Police formed two special teams to locate Hussain, and he was arrested at Bowenpally on Tuesday night. The accused will be produced before the court for remand.
