HYDERABAD: TG Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) sleuths, during a special drive on Wednesday, found that there were 1,888 mule bank accounts opened by accused cyber fraudsters in 137 bank branches.Police found that these accounts were linked to 9,431 cases registered in various parts of the country, including 782 cases in Telangana.TGCSB director Shikha Goel said they would look into the possibility of bank officials playing a role in the opening of these mule accounts. "Police inspected 137 bank branches and collected KYC details of suspicious mule account holders. The checking and verification are presently underway. Initial verification showed that many of these branches had multiple mule accounts.""A single account operating from Sultan Bazar was found to be linked with 496 crime complaints across multiple jurisdictions. In Suryapet district, it was found that in four bank branches, there were 298 accounts linked across multiple jurisdictions," officials said.Officials said that the drive will continue.
