2 UoH alumni win in Kerala polls

HYDERABAD: Two of the University of Hyderabad alumni — Roji M John and Rony K Baby have won in the recently concluded Kerala Assembly Elections.While John was elected as MLA from Angamaly constituency, Baby won from Kanjirappally.“It is at UoH where I got an opportunity to interact with students from different states, understand their culture and politics. It gave me a democratic platform and helped in widening my understanding,” John, the three-time MLA, told TOI.He said that it is student politics at UoH and later at Jawaharlal Nehru University that paved his way into politics. “I was active in students politics both at UoH and JNU. I was also National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) national president,” he added.The varsity said that the journey of these students, from the halls of the department of Political Science to the corridors of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, is a testament to the university’s legacy of nurturing leadership.“The success of our alumni reflects the growing impact of UoH graduates on the realms of democratic leadership and social service. By bridging academic excellence with public responsibility, these leaders continue to make the university proud on a national stage,” a release from the UoH read.
As per the details shared by the varsity, John studied MA Political Science during 2002-2004. He is a third time MLA as he was elected thrice from the same constituency since 2016.Baby, meanwhile, studied at UoH from 1998. He was an MA Political Science student from 1998–2000 and MPhil Political Science from 2003. He was elected to the assembly for the first time in 2026.
