Belagavi: The nomination process for the upcoming elections to the Belagavi Bar Association has concluded, paving the way for a closely contested poll across several key posts.
Seven candidates are in the fray for the president's post — Channabasappa Bagewadi, Ramesh Dyamannavar, BJ Gangai, Shankar More, DM Patil (Tolgi), RG Patil and SS Sanikop.
The vice-president (men) post has attracted six candidates: Laxman Akkenavar, Shekhar Janmatti, Srikanth Kamble, Mahantesh Malshetty N., Pawan Patil and Kempanna Yadgude. Three candidates — Rajeshwari Herekar, JS Mandrolsi and Pooja Patil — are contesting for vice-president (women).
Five candidates have filed nominations for the general secretary post — Gurusiddheshwar Huller, Bhagirath Shigihalli, Sachin Shivannavar, Basavaraj Sultanpuri and Veeresh Kumar Puned. Santosh Gondhale, Prashant Patil and Vishal Patil are contesting for joint secretary, while the treasurer's post will see a contest between Nirmala Patil (Athani) and Mahadevi Saravar.
As many as 11 candidates are contesting for the management committee (men), while three candidates are in the fray for the women's management committee.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 21, with the final list to be published on April 22. Polling will be held on May 2 from 11am to 5pm, followed by counting at 6.30pm the same day. With multiple candidates contesting most posts, keen contests are expected.
