Heat stroke ward opened at GIMS hospital as temperatures rise in Kalaburagi dist
Kalaburagi: A 20-bed heat stroke ward was opened at Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) Hospital following increasing temperature in the district. Highest temperature 45.5 at Ainapur village in Chincholi taluk in Kalaburagi district was recorded on Sunday.All facilities to give emergency treatment for heat stroke are available at the wards. District administration is sensitising the public including old age people, farmers, children and women to be at homes or under the shade between 11 am and 4 pm every day to avoid heat strokes.Speaking to TOI, medical superintendent at GIMS Hospital in Kalaburagi Dr CR Shivakumar said: "Special heat stroke management ward at GIMS is set. Earlier, we used to treat the heat-stroke patients at normal wards. As cases were increasing day by day, we decided to open a special ward. Now, a 20-bed special heat stroke management ward has been opened. Right now, 12 patients have been admitted at the ward and every day patients will get discharged and new patients will be admitted."Treatment related to heat stroke will be administered at this ward, which is equipped with all necessary medicines.
Special general physicians along with a nursing team have been deployed at the ward.The same formula is being followed at all taluk and primary health centres in the district. To avoid the heat strokes, public have been informed and alerted every day through media and social media.Public have been instructed to keep safe from the scorching sun between 11am and 4pm and to keep themselves hydrated by drinking plenty of water, juices, buttermilk, which will keep them safe from heat strokes.
