Koppal: A govt school teacher was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 6 lakh by Gangavathi district additional sessions court for sexually assaulting a differently abled woman under the pretext of offering her a job.
The convict is Mohammed Azaruddin Abdul Hameed, a native of Dharwad who worked as a teacher at a govt school in Singapur village in Sindhanur taluk of Raichur district. According to the prosecution, Hameed lured the woman, who was known to him, to his rented house on the promise of getting her a job, and sexually assaulted her.

The incident occurred on June 30, 2022, at a house in JP Nagar of Karatagi. The complaint stated that he assaulted the woman with a slipper, dragged her, and attempted to outrage her modesty.
During investigation, it was revealed that the accused recorded videos of the sexual act on his cellphone and later used them to threaten the survivor.
The survivor lodged a complaint at the Karatagi police station on July 2, 2022. Hameed was arrested, and released on bail later.
After a three-year trial, the court pronounced him guilty on Feb 18. Following arguments on sentencing, judge Sadanand Nagappa Nayak awarded life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 6 lakh.
Of the fine amount, Rs 5.5 lakh is to be paid as compensation to the survivor, and Rs 50,000 remitted to the state.
