Seven rebels surrender in Dimapur after AR outreach
Guwahati: Seven armed members of various insurgent groups in Nagaland surrendered at Dimapur Police Station on Thursday, as a result of persistent persuasion and coordinated efforts of security forces.
A defence PRO stated that based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of cadres belonging to multiple factions in the general areas of Dimapur, Assam Rifles launched sustained outreach and coordination efforts to encourage misguided youths to shun the path of violence and return to the mainstream.
The cadres deposited a cache of weapons, including four .22 calibre pistols with ammunition, one 7.65 mm pistol with ammunition, one single barrel shotgun, one single barrel gun and one carbine with magazine.
“The successful surrender highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-based operations and the humane, persuasive approach adopted by the security forces. Assam Rifles, in coordination with other security agencies, remains committed towards maintaining peace, security and stability in the region and continues to encourage misguided youth to join the mainstream,” the PRO added.
