Security forces seize illegal firearm & ammo in Aizawl, 1 detained

Aizawl: Security personnel seized an illegal firearm and ammunition during a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police at Tuikhuahtlang in Aizawl on Wednesday.Officials said the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the illegal possession of arms and ammunition in the area.During the search operation, the security forces recovered one .32 mm pistol, five live rounds of ammunition and 16 spent cartridge cases.One person, a non-tribal, was detained, the officials said. The firearm, ammunition and the detained man were later handed over to Mizoram Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.The officials said an investigation is underway to find out the source of the weapon and whether it was linked to any criminal or insurgent activities, including cross-border gun running.
