NDA 3.0 tenure to turn plans into projects: Sarma

Guwahati: Assam’s caretaker CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday declared that NDA 3.0 will dedicate the next five years to delivering the aspirations of the people of Assam — shifting focus from vision and preparation to completion and inaugurations.Sarma, who is set to take oath as CM for the second time on Tuesday, said the last decade under NDA rule in Assam was marked by “vision and new beginnings”, while the next phase will be defined by “visible results on the ground”.In a post on X, he wrote: “The last 10 years of NDA in Assam have been marked by vision and new beginnings. The next five years will be dedicated to strengthening our commitment and fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Assam.”In a video message, Sarma outlined the trajectory of NDA governance in the state — the first term (2016-21) was about preparation, the second term (2021-26) on laying foundations, and the third term (2026-31) will be about delivery.“This time Assam will witness transformative progress — not just announcements but inaugurations of historic projects,” he said.Among the marquee projects slated for completion are the 19.3km Dhubri-Phulbari bridge, set to be India’s longest, connecting Assam and Meghalaya across the Brahmaputra.Sarma also listed the Suwalkuchi-Palasbari and Majuli-Jorhat bridges, the Guwahati-Silchar expressway, and the elevated corridor at Kaziranga. Work will also begin on the Gohpur-Numaligarh tunnel under the Brahmaputra.On the industrial front, Sarma highlighted the upcoming Tata semiconductor plant at Jagiroad, the fertiliser plant at Namrup, and several power projects. “People will witness semiconductor chips being manufactured here,” he said, adding that in the next five years, commuters will be able to cross the Brahmaputra via the Narengi-Kuruwa bridge.By positioning the third NDA term as one of delivery, Sarma sought to assure citizens that the groundwork of the past decade will now translate into tangible progress, with infrastructure and industry reshaping Assam’s economic landscape.
