Mizoram’s first director of education LN Tluanga dead
Aizawl: LN Tluanga, Mizoram’s first director of education and one of the state’s most distinguished academicians, passed away at Aizawl Hospital on Sunday afternoon. He was 93.Tluanga, a resident of Mission Veng neighbourhood in Aizawl and an elder of the Presbyterian Church, breathed his last around 3pm. His funeral will be held on Monday.Born in 1933 at Bukpui village, Dr Tluanga received his early education at Sialsuk and Aizawl before pursuing higher studies outside the state. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Calcutta’s Scottish Church College in 1955, earning distinction in the subject.After graduation, he briefly served as a teacher before continuing his academic pursuits. In 1974, he earned a Ph.D under Gauhati University, becoming the first Mizo to obtain a doctorate in Mathematics.
