Imphal: Two Naga villagers from Konsakhul suffered bullet injuries in an alleged ambush on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred when four youths went to inspect and restore a water supply line that had reportedly been blocked, disrupting the village’s access to water.
Konsakhul village authority publicity cell accused armed cadres of the Kuki National Front-P (KNF-P) and individuals from neighbouring Leilon Vaiphei Kuki village of carrying out the attack.
According to a statement issued by the Konsakhul village authority, tensions had been building in recent days over suspected attempts to contaminate the village’s water source. Villagers claimed they became suspicious after noticing unusual conditions at the source and alerted fellow villagers. They alleged that the water supply was later “deliberately blocked, cutting off access to an essential resource”.
The four youths proceeded to the water source to investigate the disruption and unblock the supply line on Sunday morning, the statement said.
Villagers described the attack as ‘an unprovoked act of violence against civilians’ and expressed concern over the rising fear and insecurity in the area.
The allegations made by the Konsakhul villagers could not be independently verified as no statement from the KNF(P), Leilon Vaiphei village authorities, or security agencies was immediately available.
Konsakhul villagers have appealed to the concerned authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, ensure the safety of residents, restore the water supply, and take appropriate action against those responsible.
