Aizawl: Mizoram’s lone Rajya Sabha member, K Vanlalvena, on Tuesday urged the Union govt to allocate funds in the 2026-27 budget for the proposed construction of a railroad from Sairang to the Myanmar border.
Speaking at the meeting of All Parliamentary Floor Leaders on the eve of the budget session, Vanlalvena said the preliminary survey for the project — linking Sairang, on the outskirts of Aizawl, to the southern border — has already been completed.

He emphasised that the rail link is of strategic importance not only for Mizoram but for the entire country, and called for its expedited implementation.
Vanlalvena also highlighted severe traffic congestion between Sairang rail station and Aizawl city following the inauguration of the Sairang rail connection by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year. With the station located on the road to Lengpui airport, he stressed the urgent need for a four-lane highway between Aizawl and Sairang, and sought budgetary support for the project in the upcoming fiscal year.
