Kuki women's group holds rally seeking justice over killing of church leaders
Guwahati: A massive rally was held in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Saturday by the Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights, demanding justice for the recent killing of three church leaders in Kangpokpi on Wednesday.Hundreds of women gathered at Koite village ground and marched nearly 2km to Tuibong, raising slogans and calling for stronger security measures in Kuki-Zo areas. The protesters later submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, addressed to the Union home minister.Their demands included re-imposition of President’s Rule to restore law, order, and public confidence, an immediate review and strengthening of the security apparatus, deployment of forces across Kuki-Zo areas to ensure safe civilian movement, and a high-level investigation into the killings. They also sought swift and ‘decisive action’ against two militant outfits allegedly involved in the violence and the fulfilment of the long-standing political demand for a separate administration .The rally further pressed for official recognition and legitimisation of village guards formed for self-protection in Kuki-Zo villages, under proper legal and administrative mechanisms. The protest comes amid heightened tensions in Manipur’s hill districts following the Kangpokpi killings, which have triggered widespread outrage and calls for accountability.
