Guwahati: Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of establishing the country’s first National Sports University (NSU) in the state is finally close to reality, with the project expected to be completed by the end of this year.Singh visited the upcoming campus at Koutruk in Imphal West district, inspected the ongoing construction and held a review meeting to assess the progress.Officials informed the CM that the new campus will include 60 faculty residential units. Responding to concerns raised by staff, Singh assured that work on the approach road would begin next week and that six borewells would be dug as a temporary measure to ease water shortages. He also promised to deploy security personnel if required to ensure uninterrupted construction.Later, speaking to reporters, Singh said the university will have an intake capacity of around 1,300 students. “This is a proud moment for Manipur and for India. The National Sports University is not just a project, it is a vision to make Manipur the hub of sporting excellence,” he said.The NSU, conceived as a flagship initiative by PM Modi, is India’s only dedicated sports university. Singh’s visit underscored the state govt’s determination to fast-track the project and address logistical hurdles so that the institution can open its doors by year-end.
