Silchar: Police seized around 4.5 quintals of ganja worth nearly Rs 2 crore from a vehicle in Sribhumi district’s Patharkandi area on Thursday night, officials said.Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police set up multiple checkpoints at strategic locations along the Patharkandi-Moina bypass. A vehicle suspected of transporting the contraband from Tripura was intercepted during the operation. The driver managed to flee .A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 38 packets of dry cannabis concealed inside the cabin, weighing around 4.5 quintals.On Friday, additional SP (Sribhumi) Anirban Sharma, along with Patharkandi PS officer-in-charge Manash Jyoti Bora and other officials, visited the spot and supervised further investigation. Sharma said the estimated market value of the consignment is around Rs 2 crore. He added that a manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding driver.Officials suspect the consignment was being transported to an undisclosed destination as part of an interstate smuggling network.
