Assam polls: 77 of 82 winning BJP candidates got 50% vote share
Guwahati: Assam assembly election was remarkable not only for the BJP-led NDA crossing the 100-seat mark, but also for the scale of its vote share. Of BJP’s 82 winning candidates, 77 secured more than 50% of the votes in their constituencies. Across NDA, 91 winners crossed the 50% vote mark.Winning a seat with more than half the votes is seen as a major achievement. This trend was not limited to NDA. In the opposition camp as well, 17 of the 24 winning candidates secured over 50% vote share. Altogether, 108 winners in the 126-member assembly crossed the 50% mark. In 2021 elections, 82 candidates achieved this.

Within NDA, Kaushik Rai of BJP from Lakhipur in Barak Valley recorded the highest vote share in the state at 81.49%. BJP’s Tuliram Ronghang from Rongkhang was second with 75.72%. Himanta Biswa Sarma ranked third with 74.42% in Jalukbari.The other BJP candidates in the top five by vote share were Bhuban Pegu from Jonai with 71.57% and Rupesh Gowala from Doomdooma with 70.79%.Among BPF winners, Sewli Mohilary from Kokrajhar secured the highest vote share at 60.84%, followed by Maneswar Brahma from Baksa with 55.06%, Rihon Daimari from Udalguri with 54.61%, Paniram Brahma from Sidli-Chirang with 53.58%, and Charan Boro from Mazbat with 53.48%.
In AGP, Tapan Das from Dimoria recorded the highest vote share at 64.71%. He was followed by Dipak Kumar Das from Barpeta with 62.88%, Atul Bora from Bokakhat with 59.66%, Dharmeswar Roy from Bajali with 56.04%, and Bikash Saikia from Teok with 55.84%.Despite poor results in many parts of the state, Congress performed strongly in Muslim-majority constituencies, winning 19 of the 22 such seats. Among its leading winners were Aftab Uddin Mollah from Jaleshwar with 69.19%, Tanzil Hussain from Samaguri with 68.09%, Zubair Anam from Algapur Katlicherra with 64.16%, Rekibuddin Ahmed from Chamaria with 63.83%, and Nurul Huda from Rupahihat with 61.46%.Raijor Dal’s Mehboob Muktar from Dhing won with 59.60% vote share, while AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal won Binnakandi with 50.54%, underlining their strong support in their constituencies.
