Police said Shahjan had been planning to surrender before the court to avoid arrest, but was arrested based on intelligence inputs. He was produced in court with a request for four days of police remand to enable further investigation. The controversy dates back to June last year, when a BJP Yuva Morcha leader filed an FIR against Shahjan for disparaging comments made during a Facebook Live session targeting CM Saha. Subsequently, Billal Miah, a BJP Minority Morcha leader, lodged another FIR accusing Shahjan of offensive remarks directed at him.Since then, Shahjan — known for his fiery speeches and vocal leadership — had remained untraceable until his arrest this week.
