Truck driver rapes woman, slits her throat, arrested

Gurgaon: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped and had her throat slit by a truck driver in Sector 10 on Saturday. She survived the attack and is now out of danger, police said. The accused has been arrested.The woman, who is from Assam, lives in the city with her husband. Around 6pm on Saturday, she went to Saraswati Enclave in search of her husband. There, she met Sharif, a truck driver. When she asked about her husband, Sharif claimed he knew him and asked her to sit inside his truck while he went to call him.According to the complaint, after she got into the truck, the accused locked the doors and raped her.Police said after the assault, the accused stepped out of the truck, and the woman locked it from inside. Enraged, he broke the side window of the canter, opened the lock, and slit her throat with a piece of glass.“He hit me with a glass piece with the intention to kill me. Hearing my screams, people gathered at the spot, following which the accused fled the spot,” she told police.After bystanders alerted the police control room (112), she was taken to Civil Hospital, where she underwent a medical examination. She filed a complaint on Sunday, after which police registered a case at Sector 10 A police station under BNS sections 118(1), 109(1), 126(2), 127(2), and 64(1).Police said Sharif has been arrested within a few hours of the crime. The canter has been seized.
