High humidity causes discomfort in daytime

Panaji: With the onset of summer barely a fortnight away, the low temperatures during night and high humidity during the day are causing some discomfort. India Meteorological Department (IMD), Panaji, recorded a minimum temperature of 24 degrees celsius on Saturday.

The mercury in Panaji was 3.4 degrees above normal on Saturday morning while the humidity during day time was 96%, about 13% higher than normal.

For a few weeks, shallow fog prevailed making the conditions pleasant during morning. But farmers are complaining about poor flowering of some crops, especially mango, due to the dewy conditions.

The maximum temperature, though has been within the normal range, IMD recorded 33.2 degrees Celsius, just 0.8 degrees above normal.

While the mercury is higher in coastal areas, just 10km ahead to the east in Old Goa, the meteorological centre at ICAR recorded a minimum temperature of 21.5 degrees within normal range.

The maximum temperature, however, was high at 35.6 degrees Celsius in Old Goa on Friday while the humidity was 91%. IMD has forecast dry weather for the next few days. But a shallow to moderate haze is likely to prevail during this period.
