Cabinet nod to raise age limit for direct DySP recruitment

Panaji: The state cabinet on Wednesday approved an amendment the Goa police service rules, 2022, to increase the age limit for direct recruitment of deputy superintendent of police (DySP) from 30 to 40.

State added feeder posts of police inspectors (PIs) to be promoted through 60% promotion from among the officers who hold those posts on a regular basis, for a minimum period of five years.

“He shall not be more than 40 years of age on the last date of the receipt of application, provided that the upper age limit may be relaxed by govt in respect of govt servants and other categories of persons as may be notified by special order issued in this behalf by the govt for a maximum up to 45 years,” the cabinet said.

The cabinet also said that the Goa Public Service Commission said that a screening test is required to shortlist candidates. Such a test, including a computer-based recruitment test, should be conducted by the commission in such a manner as may be decided by it.

On promotion to the junior scale of the Goa police service, the cabinet said that every Jan, govt will prepare a combined eligibility list of all PI rank officers — PI, PI (armourer), PI (wireless), PI (radio mechanic), and PI (motor transport), including PIs of the Indian Reserve Battalions, that is, PI (armed police) — for the purpose of promotion. This list shall be circulated to all officers holding such posts.

“An officer shall be considered as eligible for promotion to the junior scale of the service if he or she has held the posts on a regular basis for a period of five years and possesses essential qualifications, including educational qualifications,” the cabinet said.

The combined eligibility list so prepared shall be based upon the seniority list vis-a-vis the date of appointment shown in the respective seniority list of the posts in the rank of PI.

The cabinet said a senior scale officer, after completion of 10 years of regular service in the service or four years of regular service in the grade of senior scale, shall be entitled to promotion to the junior administrative grade from the date of completion of the said period.

A junior administrative grade officer, after completion of 14 years of regular service in the service or four years of regular service in the junior administrative grade, shall be entitled to promotion to the selection grade from the date of completion of the said period.
