Uttam Nagar murder case: Delhi Police crack down on social media accounts raising Rs 35 lakh through misleading posts

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has acted against several social media accounts for allegedly spreading misleading information and raising over Rs 35 lakh "under the garb of false narratives" related to the murder of a 26-year-old man in Uttam Nagar on Holi.Several inflammatory posts began circulating on social media after the incident. Police coordinated with social media platforms to get the content removed. So far, 14 takedown requests have been sent to X and eight to Instagram.

Police also found that some people had tried to mobilise funds by circulating videos related to the incident. In one such viral video from March 10, a QR code was shared requesting financial help. DCP (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh said, "They were trying to mobilise funds under the garb of false narratives related to the incident. About Rs 37 lakh was deposited into the suspect bank account in the past two days. The bank concerned has been informed and asked to freeze the account while the matter is being probed."
