Mercury to spike to 45 degree Celsius soon
New Delhi: The heat continued as the hottest areas of the city recorded over 42 degree Celsius even as the weather department expects maximum temperatures to reach 45 degrees Celsius over the next two days.
No heatwave warning has been issued so far. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects temperatures to rise today, also forecasting thundery developments.
On Saturday, the maximum temperature at base station Safdarjung was recorded at 40.8 degree Celsius, against at 39.8 degree Celsius a day earlier.
Ridge experienced the highest temperature at 42.4 degree Celsius, followed by Ayanagar at 41.6 and Lodhi road at 41.2 degree Celsius, respectively.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 24.8 degree Celsius, two notches above normal, against 26.2 degree Celsius a day earlier.
According to IMD, the maximum temperature may hover around 42-44 degree Celsius today, further likely to hover around 43-45 degree Celsius on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
The weather department however expects thunderstorms today evening with gusty winds, despite extreme heat.
