MCD Steps Up Anti-Mosquito Drive

TNNNew Delhi: To curb vector-borne diseases and mosquito breeding, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will conduct fogging every 15 days in crowded areas like markets, slum clusters and religious sites.The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by mayor Pravesh Wahi on Friday, where measures to prevent dengue, malaria and chikungunya were discussed.Officials said insecticide spraying and house inspections by domestic breeding checkers are already underway, and fogging will now be intensified in high-footfall areas.The move comes amid a rise in dengue cases following erratic rainfall in April. Delhi recorded 52 dengue cases last month, compared to 32 in April 2025 and 35 in April 2024. Residents have also reported increased mosquito breeding across several localities.Wahi directed that all multi-tasking staff, including domestic breeding checkers and malaria inspectors, undergo proper training to ensure cordial behaviour with the public. He also asked officials to submit daily ward-wise progress reports through WhatsApp groups for effective monitoring.“MCD has adequate stock of insecticides and spraying must be carried out as per prescribed norms,” Wahi said, while stressing timely action and awareness drives in schools and neighbourhoods. He also urged residents to prevent water stagnation and maintain cleanliness.
