NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old newlywed allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of a building in northeast Delhi’s Mustafabad area, police said on Tuesday, while her family accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment.According to the PTI news agency, the incident occurred on Monday. The woman was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.A preliminary inquiry revealed that she had married the man of her choice around three months ago.Her family alleged that around a month after the marriage, the husband and his family started demanding gold and cash.The woman’s family alleged that she was subjected to mental harassment over the dowry demands and had been under severe stress for the past few weeks.Confirming the incident, a police officer said legal action is being initiated and further investigation is underway.(With agency inputs)
