Dehradun: A junior engineer of Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL) was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 in Dehradun on Tuesday, officials of the state vigilance department said.
Atul Kumar, posted at UPCL's 33kV sub-station in Dehradun, was caught red-handed by the vigilance team following a complaint alleging that he had demanded Rs 80,000 in exchange for providing a new power connection with an increased load capacity to an apartment owned by the complainant's wife.
"As per the trap laid, the complainant went to hand over the bribe to Kumar. He was nabbed the moment he received the money. The vigilance team then gathered evidence and registered an FIR against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act. An investigation is underway," the vigilance department said in a statement.
