Youth suffers shock from electric pole during rain in Coimbatore, dies
Coimbatore: A 24-year-old IT professional was electrocuted after he touched a roadside electric pole near Edayarpalayam Junction on Thadagam Road here on Saturday during heavy rain while he was returning from a relative's funeral.The Kavundampalayam police identified the deceased as K Keerthik, 24, of Vivekanandar Street at Neelikonampalayam near Singanallur in the city. He was employed at a private IT firm in Bengaluru. According to a police officer, Keerthik travelled to Kanuvai to attend a funeral ceremony of a relative. "After the funeral, he reached Edayarpalayam Junction on Vadavalli Road and tried to board a bus. During this time, it was raining heavily in the city. While attempting to cross the road, Keerthik touched a nearby electric pole for support. Due to a suspected technical fault or leakage worsened by the rain, he suffered a massive electric shock and was thrown several feet away." Passers-by rushed to his aid and immediately took him to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital in an ambulance. However, doctors declared him brought dead. The Kavundampalayam police have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter.
