NAMAKKAL: When a 19-year-old woman from
Bihar resisted their attempt to rape her, two of her coworkers in a rubber factory near Rasipuram in Namakkal district allegedly pushed her towards a railway track as a train was fast approaching in the early hours of Wednesday. The woman escaped their attempt to kill her, but she suffered fractures in both of her legs.
The woman worked at a private rubber factory on the Attayampatti Road where some young men from Bihar also worked. According to railway police sources, the woman went out with two of her coworkers around 4am. “The three were walking along the railway tracks. The two men suddenly forced her to comply with their wishes," said a railway police officer in Salem.
The woman objected to their advances, and a clash followed. "In anger, the two men allegedly pushed her towards the track as a train was fast approaching. The woman, who fell on the track and suffered leg fractures, managed to roll herself away before the train crossed the spot. The men fled the scene," the officer said.
Hearing her cries, some passersby rushed to the spot. They informed the Rasipuram police. Police reached the spot, rescued the woman and took her to the Rasipuram Government Hospital. She was later referred to Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital.
The railway police registered a case and began investigations.
