Man arrested with pain killer tablets worth Rs 1 lakh in Erode

ERODE: The Erode North police arrested a man on Thursday for possessing contraband drugs worth Rs 1 lakh intended for illicit sale near a private college in Erode. The arrested man has been identified as A Kalaiselvan, 30, of Muniyappan Kovil Street in Manickampalayam in Erode district. Acting on a tip-off about the illegal sale of narcotic pills near the college, a special police patrol team rushed to the area and kept it under surveillance. During the operation, officers noticed Kalaiselvan behaving suspiciously and intercepted him. A search led to the seizure of 3,000 restricted pharmaceutical tablets from his possession. Police registered a case against him. He was remanded in judicial custody. Police said strict action would continue against those involved in such offences.
