Missing girl found dead in a pond in Salem, probe on

Salem: The body of a 16-year-old girl who went missing from Annadhanapatty in Salem on Monday, was recovered from a pond in Seeragapady on Wednesday evening. Police are investigating if she was raped and murdered, and her body dumped in the pond.The girl had left her house on May 25, and did not return, prompting her relatives to search for her. However, as their efforts were in vain, the girl’s family lodged a complaint at the Annadhanapatty police station. “We registered a case and initiated a search for the missing girl in several places,” said a police officer.Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening, some locals found a girl’s body floating in the pond and alerted the police. Attayampatty police subsequently recovered the body and sent it to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem.Both Attayampatty and Annadhanapatty police are investigating from several angles.
