Tension At West Bengal Border As Migrants Wait For Return Amid Holding Centre Operations

A tense situation has developed at the Hakimpur border in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas, where dozens of undocumented Bangladeshi migrants are gathering to return home. Authorities are recording details and shifting many to holding centres, with over 350 already documented. Migrants cite fear of detention and increased checks in recent months. Some were brought illegally through agents years ago. While pushback plans are underway, the process has been temporarily halted, with uncertainty over Bangladesh’s acceptance of returnees.
