CHENNAI: Hours after Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam established a clear lead in the assembly election on Monday, police strengthened security around the residence of TVK leader Vijay in Neelankarai. They restricted access to the locality and deployed additional forces along key stretches of the East Coast Road.Entry of the public and party workers into Kapaleeshwarar Nagar, where the residence is located, has been restricted.

Barricades were placed to regulate vehicular movement towards the area. Police personnel were deployed at intervals of 100 metres along the East Coast Road from Lattice Bridge Road in Adyar to Neelankarai. A team of the Central Armed Police Force was also stationed at the residence.Deputy commissioner of police Karthikeyan, Adyar district, inspected the security arrangements and reviewed deployment on the ground.Police said the measures were taken as part of preventive security arrangements to maintain law and order.
