JCD Prabhakar to be elected assembly speaker

Chennai: TVK MLA from Thousand Lights constituency J C D Prabhakar is set to become the speaker of the 17th Tamil Nadu assembly as he submitted his nomination for the post to assembly secretary K Srinivasan on Monday.As Prabhakar is the only MLA to file the nomination, he is set to be elected as the speaker unanimously. Assembly sources said that deputy speaker and leader of the house will be appointed on Tuesday and there will be no election for them.TVK sources said that former minister K A Sengottaiyan is likely to be appointed as the leader of the house as he is the seniormost MLA in the assembly.Former minister Duraimurugan was the leader of the house in the previous DMK govt, and former CM O Panneerselvam was the leader of the house in the AIADMK govt from 2018 to 2021.
