Boy dies as dad reverses tractor near Tiruppattur

TIRUPPATTUR: A one-and-a-half-year-old boy was crushed to death by a reversing tractor driven by his father at a village in Tiruppattur district on Tuesday.Police, who identified the deceased as Karan Sharma, said he was born to M Arul Pragasam and his wife Sangeetha 18 months ago, more than 10 years after they got married.On Tuesday, Pragasam was working his tractor on the farm and did not notice his son playing behind. As he reversed the vehicle, it ran over the infant’s head. Realising his mistake, the farmer got down and rushed the boy to govt general hospital in Tiruppattur where a doctor declared him brought dead.The baby’s grandfather Murugan, unable to overcome grief, argued with the hospital staff, beseeching them to save the infant, while Pragasam and his wife were inconsolable. The tragedy left the entire village in mourning. The Natrampalli police are investigating.
