AGRA: The Agra district panchayat board has passed a resolution to rename Fatehabad town and its assembly constituency as Sindoorpuram, and Badshahi Bagh as Shri Brahmabagh. The move honours
Operation Sindoor, conducted by the armed forces against Pakistan following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in which 25 tourists and a local were killed. The resolution was adopted during a meeting at Vikas Bhavan on Monday evening.
Agra district panchayat chief Manju Bhadauria called the decision "historic" and said it reflects the spirit of national pride. "All panchayat members unanimously approved the proposals. The name of Fatehabad assembly constituency will also be changed to Sindoorpuram. The resolution will now be forwarded to the state govt for approval," she said.
For the name change to take effect, the proposal will be sent to the state cabinet. Upon its approval, the Centre will be approached, followed by the governor's assent and a gazette notification to formalise the new names.
Badshahi Bagh is a 17th-century garden around 3km from Fatehabad and associated with Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Its new name is inspired by the BrahMos missile used during Operation Sindoor and symbolically references Lord Brahma. Fatehabad, originally known as Samugarh, was renamed in 1658 by Aurangzeb after he defeated his brother Dara Shikoh at the Battle of Samugarh.
