‘2-language policy is fundamental not only to TN, but also to TVK’
Chennai: Two-language policy is fundamental not only to Tamil Nadu, but also to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), school education minister Rajmohan told mediapersons on Monday. The minister reiterated that the state stood by the policy of communicating in English with the rest of the world. "Among ourselves we will speak in Tamil," he said.
In the wake of reports pertaining to Central govt sending letters to Tamil Nadu to start PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) in TN, the minister said that the subject was brought up for discussion at the review. "We have to assess whether the policies align with the goals of TN. We have only now conducted a first meeting," he said.
On reopening of schools, the minister said instructions have been given to ensure all books and uniforms reach students on day one of school. "More decisions pertaining to the education department will be taken in subsequent meetings," he added.
Earlier, the minister had released books for classes I-III, which were developed in line with the state education policy (SEP) launched in 2025. Officials from school education department said the textbooks have been structured to encourage a child-centric learning approach through stories, songs and learning activities.
"They have been designed in a manner that enables students to understand and learn easily, develop individual talents and achieve the expected learning outcomes. They also have been prepared with attractive colour designs and include content aimed at developing students' life skills, motor skills, socio-emotional skills and values," a release from school education department said.
