2 killed, 16 injured in bus-truck collision in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi

KALLAKURICHI: Two people were killed and 16 others injured on Saturday after a luxury bus and a container truck collided near Ulundurpet in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi district. Police said the bus with 27 passengers had left Chennai for Aranthangi on Friday night. The bus driver, P Mani, 40, lost control of the vehicle while crossing the Pali Battalion camp near Ulundurpet before it swerved into the opposite lane on the highway, colliding with an iron scrap-ladden container truck heading to Chennai. The collision ripped the front portions of both vehicles. P Mani and truck driver R Santhosh Kumar, 36, a resident of Bihar, died on the spot, while sixteen passengers were injured in the accident.A highway patrol team and a team from Edaikkal police station rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. The bodies have been sent to the Kallakurichi government general hospital for post-mortem examinations. The teams also rescued the 16 injured and sent them to Ulundurpet government general hospital for treatment. Edaikkal police has registered a case and a probe is underway.
