As per the Vedic traditions and Hindu culture, offering water to the rising Sun, also known as Surya Arghya, is the sacred Vedic ritual of offering water to seek blessings of Lord Surya. As per Vedic traditions, it is believed that doing this ritual every morning helps harness the Sun's positive prana for vitality, confidence, and planetary harmony. In fact, it is also a powerful remedy for strengthening weak Sun’s placements in a horoscope. It is believed that this simple practice performed daily at dawn can balance doshas, clear karmic blocks, and help in improving luck, health, leadership prospects and prosperity.
Preparation and Purity
To perform this simple ritual, it is advised to rise before sunrise, bathe with cold water facing east, and wear clean red or orange clothes that symbolize the sun's bright colors, and fasting until after the ritual is believed to be the right way to maintain mental purity by avoiding anger or negativity to ensure sattvic energy flow.

Gather Sacred Items
To perform this ritual, it is essential to use a copper lota (pot) filled with fresh, clean water mixed with red
sandalwood (chandan), kumkum, mishri (rock sugar), and red flowers like hibiscus. After that, it is believed that a rudraksha mala helps in
mantra japa to amplify the benefits of this ritual. Also, it must be performed barefoot on clean earth, grass, or near a Tulsi plant.
Position and posture
To perform this ritual, face east where Surya rises, standing straight with feet shoulder-width apart. Hold the lota with both hands at chest level, arms extended toward the Sun.
Pouring the arghya
Always start pouring water after the orange rays appear; pour water in a steady, thin stream from waist height so sunlight refracts through it, forming a sparkling arc. Chant the Gayatri Mantra or "Om Hram Hreem Hroum Sah Suryaya Namah" 108 times rhythmically, syncing breath with flow until lota empties.
Closing ritual
Touch poured water with right-hand fingers and apply to forehead (third eye), eyes, heart, and throat chakras. Sprinkle remaining water around you clockwise, do three prostrations (dandvat), and chant "Tvameva Mata Cha Pita Tvameva" for gratitude.
Timing and frequency
Offer within one hour post-sunrise daily, ideally Sundays for amplified Sun blessings. Consistent 40-day practice yields peak results, countering Sun afflictions like low vitality or paternal issues per Vedic astrology.
