Abohar: A long-standing land dispute between a mother and daughter erupted into a violent confrontation on Sunday evening, leaving four men with critical injures as rival factions fought over a wheat harvest.
Police were forced to intervene when a heated argument between Kanta Jyani and her daughter, Rashi, escalated into an armed clash involving gunfire and sharp-edged weapons in a field of Kular village. Despite the land ownership being under judicial consideration, witnesses say the violence began when Rashi Jyani arrived at the disputed property with a group of supporters to harvest wheat.
Her mother, Kanta, arrived quickly with her own faction to block the activity. The resulting brawl left four associates of the two women hospitalised. From Kanta's group, Vikramjit and Lovejit sustained injuries, while From Rashi's group, Tara Chand and Udham Singh were wounded.
All four injured men were moved to the civil hospital in Abohar, where medical staff confirmed that Lovejit had suffered a deep cut to his arm. The other three remain in critical condition. While witnesses reported the sound of gunfire, hospital officials stated that CT scans are required to confirm if the wounds were caused by bullets.
Due to the severity of their injuries, three of the men have been referred to a specialised trauma facility.
