UT mayor chairs meeting on illegal street vending

Chandigarh: With the Chandigarh civic body failing to curb illegal vendors in the city and their number is increasing at many commercial areas, the city mayor on Wednesday called all inspectors and related staff of the enforcement wing and issued directions in this regard. Besides the enforcement wing, the staff of the engineering department and sanitation wing were also present at the meeting, where the mayor also assessed the prevailing situation of street vending across the city. He emphasized that enforcement teams must act firmly against unauthorised vendors occupying public spaces, roads, pavements and market areas, which not only disrupt traffic flow, but also create sanitation and safety concerns. tnn
