Police launch ‘MAIDAN 2.0’ anti-drug drive in Pkl

Panchkula: Panchkula police Thursday launched a month-long anti-drug campaign, “MAIDAN 2.0”, aimed at cracking down on drug trafficking and substance abuse across the district.The drive will focus on identifying drug hotspots, increasing surveillance and taking action against traffickers and repeat offenders.The campaign was announced during a video conference chaired by police commissioner Pankaj Nain, attended by senior officers, including DCP Panchkula, DCP crime and traffic, and officials from the anti-narcotics cell.Police have been directed to intensify checking in identified hotspots and enhance surveillance using CCTV cameras and drone monitoring. Parks and other vulnerable areas will also be monitored through drones to detect peddling and drug use.Authorities said chemist shops will be kept under strict watch, particularly those suspected of illegally selling intoxicants. CCTV systems at medical stores will be audited, and violations will invite legal action.The campaign also includes monitoring of drug offenders out on parole. Police teams will verify their activities regularly and examine mobile phones where required.
