Namdhari community’s history reflects sacrifice and patriotism: CM
Hisar: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday attended the grand Hola Mohalla programme organised at the Namdhari Gurdwara in Jiwan Nagar village of Sirsa district, and sought blessings from the Sant Samaj. Addressing a large gathering of the Namdhari Sangat, including devotees from across the country and abroad, the chief minister said he felt privileged to be present on the occasion of the revered festival being celebrated at the sacred ashram.
Paying obeisance to Sant Dilip Singh Ji Maharaj, he said the Sant Samaj has been playing a vital role in uniting society through the values of love, service, brotherhood and spirituality. Saini said the land of Sirsa has long been regarded as a spiritual centre and a "tapobhoomi" of saints and great personalities. He noted that the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, visited the region in 1507, and Gurdwara Sri Chilla Sahib was later established to commemorate his teachings. He added that saints such as Baba Sarsai Nath and Baba Bhooman Shah spread the message of spirituality, service and humanity from this region, and their teachings continue to guide society even today. The CM said Hola Mohalla is not merely a festival but a reflection of India's rich cultural heritage, valour and spiritual traditions. "It inspires people to maintain a balance between courage and devotion in life," he said.He said the festival symbolises the spirit of standing against injustice and upholding righteousness. Guru Gobind Singh Ji initiated the tradition of celebrating Hola Mohalla to strengthen Khalsa traditions and promote unity, brotherhood and martial spirit, along with the celebrations of Holi, he added. Highlighting the contribution of the Namdhari community, Saini said its history is marked by sacrifice, discipline and dedication. He described the Kuka Movement initiated by Satguru Ram Singh Ji Maharaj as an important chapter in India's freedom struggle. Saini said that during British rule, the Namdhari community advocated the Swadeshi movement and the boycott of foreign goods, which gave impetus to the freedom movement. He also paid tribute to the Namdhari martyrs who, he said, faced cannons at Malerkotla with courage and sacrificed their lives without compromising their principles. The CM said the participation of lakhs of devotees from India and abroad in the Hola Mohalla celebrations reflects that people remain deeply connected to their spiritual roots even in modern times. The teachings of saints and spiritual leaders continue to inspire society towards service, harmony and humanity, he said.
