Chandigarh: A 20-year-old man was stabbed to death at Daria market on Tuesday night, triggering panic in the area. The victim, identified as
Suraj, a resident of Daria, worked at a private company in the city.
According to police, three to four armed assailants arrived at the market in the evening and allegedly attacked Suraj. Eyewitnesses said the accused stabbed him multiple times with sharp-edged weapons before fleeing the spot. Suraj collapsed on the road in a pool of blood.
Passersby alerted the police control room, following which a PCR team reached the scene and rushed the injured man to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. However, doctors declared him brought dead.
Preliminary investigations suggest an old rivalry may have been the motive behind the murder. Police are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers.
Senior police officers and a forensic team examined the crime scene and collected evidence. Suraj’s parents, both employed with the UT forest department, were informed.
A case of murder has been registered against unknown persons at the Industrial Area Phase-I police station. No arrests have been made so far, and investigations are underway.
