Chandigarh: Lt Gen Harjeet Singh Sahi on Tuesday assumed the charge of the Chief of Staff, Western Command, at the Chandimandir Military Station. He succeeds Lt Gen Puneet Ahuja, who has been appointed as the Director General (Strategic Planning) at the Army Headquarters.
An alumnus of Punjab Public School, Nabha, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Lieutenant General Sahi was commissioned into the 23rd Battalion of the Rajput Regiment in December 1988. He currently holds the appointment of Colonel of the Rajput Regiment.
Lieutenant General Sahi has extensive operational experience across the northern, western and eastern theatres, including the Siachen glacier. He commanded his battalion and an infantry brigade along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Counter Insurgency Force (Kilo) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Lieutenant General Sahi has the unique distinction of commanding three corps, the largest corps of the
Indian Army, with an area of responsibility along the eastern borders, the India-Myanmar border and the hinterland of six northeastern states.
He has also held key staff appointments, including Brigadier General Staff of an operational corps, Additional Director General Military Operations and Director General (Information Warfare) at Army Headquarters.
He has also attended major professional courses, including the Staff Course at DSSC, Wellington, Tamil Nadu; Higher Command Course at the Army War College, Mhow; and the NDC course at National Defence College, New Delhi.
Lieutenant General Sahi holds two MPhil degrees and a master's degree in Defence and Strategic Studies.
