Bathinda: Punjab and Himachal Pradesh recorded over 100% excess rainfall in the last 24 hours (from 8.30 am, May 3 to 8.30 am, May 4), while Haryana logged a staggering 1,143% excess during the same period.Haryana received 8.7 mm of rainfall against a normal of 0.7 mm. Punjab recorded 1.9 mm rainfall — 177% above normal — against a usual 0.7 mm, while Himachal Pradesh received 5.3 mm, marking a 179% excess over its normal of 1.9 mm.Thunderstorms accompanied by squally/gusty winds reaching speeds of 50–90 kmph were reported at isolated places in Haryana and Punjab, while winds of 30–50 kmph prevailed at isolated locations in Himachal. Hailstorms were also reported in Haryana.Gusty winds up to 87 kmph were reported in Panipat, 65 kmph in Sonipat and Karnal, 57 kmph in Charkhi Dadri, 52 kmph in Rohtak in Haryana. Winds up to 76 kmph were reported in Sangrur and Anandpur Sahib, 63 kmph in Hoshiarpur, 61 kmph in Mohali, 48 kmph in Faridkot, 46 kmph in Bathinda and 39 kmph in Ferozepur in Punjab and 48 kmph in Chandigarh.As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), due to a western disturbance, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-50 kmph) is likely over Himachal Pradesh till May 6.
