Garbage dumped on Peermuchalla road for 3 days, commuters hit

Mohali: Garbage has been lying dumped for the past three days on the main road in Peermuchalla near the Panchkula border, causing inconvenience to residents and commuters.

Residents said waste is usually piled along the roadside, but three days ago it was dumped directly on the carriageway, creating major problems for traffic. A long stretch of the road is affected, with nearly one-fourth of it covered in garbage.

Apart from being an eyesore, the waste poses a risk of accidents even as the Zirakpur Municipal Council has failed to act, residents alleged.

“It appears several truckloads of garbage were dumped here three days ago. One-fourth of the road is blocked. It is shocking that the MC has not taken note. This reminds one of Delhi’s garbage mountains. It must be cleared immediately,” said Upasna, a member of Solution Box, Peermuchalla.

The issue has also drawn attention on social media, with several Instagram reels on the mess going viral, though residents said no action has followed.

Locals pointed out that the area often witnesses jurisdictional confusion between Peermuchalla and the Panchkula municipal corporation, but said the affected stretch falls clearly within Peermuchalla limits.

They also flagged that hoardings of candidates contesting Zirakpur MC elections are visible in the area, but none have taken up the issue.

Contacted, Zirakpur MC executive officer Parvinder Singh Bhatti said the situation was a fallout of the ongoing sanitation workers’ strike. “We are in talks with them and hope the matter will be resolved soon,” he said.
