Ram Rahim supporters set 2 railway stations afire in Punjab
Malout and Balluanna railway stations were partially torched by the angry followers as violence spread across Punjab in the aftermath of the court's verdict, officials said.

The Northern Railway had cancelled 211 trains to and from Haryana since August 23 up to August 27.

Of the total number of trains cancelled, 91 are Express trains and 120 are passenger trains.

The railways has also short terminated/short originated 24 trains.

Dera chief's conviction: Alert sounded in UP
An alert was sounded in Uttar Pradesh today in the aftermath of a CBI court convicting Dera Sacha Sauda sect head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case and subsequent incidents of violence reported from Haryana.

"An alert has been sounded in the state, especially in the districts bordering Haryana and Delhi. A strict watch is being kept at the border. No individual or group would be allowed to foment trouble in Uttar Pradesh," Additional Director General of Police (law-and-order) Anand Kumar said.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today took stock of the situation in Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh in the wake of violence following the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case, a home ministry official said.

Singh also called up chief ministers of Haryana and Punjab, Manohar Lal Khattar and Amarinder Singh respectively, who briefed him about the current situation and the steps taken to restore normalcy, the official said.

The home minister directed the central agencies to monitor the situation and apprise him regularly, the official said.

Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday appealed to the people of Haryana to maintain peace and order and said it was the state government's responsibility to maintain law and order.

"The priority now is to maintain law and order and peace. I appeal to the people of Haryana to keep calm and see that there is no loss of life or damage to property," he told reporters shortly after violence broke out in the wake of conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Guru Ram Raheem in a rape and sexual exploitation case.

Delhi on high alert as violence breaks out in Haryana
Delhi was today put on high alert in the wake of incidents of violence in Haryana following the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case, police said.

A senior police officer said that even though there have been no specific inputs of Dera followers planning to create trouble here, security has been beefed up in the national capital as a precautionary measure.

The security in areas bordering Haryana has been heightened.
