Civic body clears 22 tonnes of waste from Dadumajra dump
Chandigarh: Municipal commissioner Amit Kumar led a special cleanliness drive at the Dadumajra dumping site on Friday, resulting in the collection and removal of nearly 22 tonnes of non-biodegradable waste.
The operation, executed alongside employees of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC), aimed to minimise regional environmental hazards, elevate local sanitation standards, and reinforce scientific waste management practices.
Accompanied by the municipal chief engineer and various engineering staff members, the clean-up team systematically gathered scattered plastic, polythene, rubber, discarded cloth, and other non-biodegradable materials. The entire 22-tonne haul was immediately loaded and transported directly to the city’s dry waste processing plant for formal scientific disposal and processing.
Speaking at the site, Kumar said the corporation remains continuously focused on making Chandigarh cleaner, greener, and more sustainable through structured clean-up drives, robust waste-processing infrastructure, and public participation. He stressed that citizens must share collective responsibility by actively reducing waste generation and ensuring proper segregation at source.
To support and motivate the field workforce laboring in the scorching afternoon heat, the civic body served cold chabeel (sweetened water drink) at the dumping site.
Officials noted that the small gesture of appreciation was warmly received by the employees and underscored the corporation’s active concern for the welfare of its ground staff.
