Lucknow: Chief minister
Yogi Adityanath on Friday targeted the Congress over alleged derogatory remarks made by UP Congress chief
Ajay Rai on PM
Narendra Modi.
The CM said the indecent, unparliamentary and inexcusable comments directed at the PM have exposed Congress’ inherent lack of political propriety.
During his visit to Mahoba to meet the family of a NEET aspirant, who was allegedly kidnapped, gangraped and tortured for days before being rescued, Rai allegedly used derogatory language for the PM after local Congress workers complained of alleged intimidation by police. A video of the incident went viral.
Rai had accused the BJP govts at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh of failing to address public grievances and demanded compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the survivor, along with action against the accused.
Yogi said the language and conduct of the Congress’s top leadership have consistently undermined democratic norms. He noted that prior to this instance Congress’s “Yuvraj” (Rahul Gandhi) also demonstrated his lack of decorum through his remarks.
The CM said Congress has now reached the pinnacle of desperation, despondency, frustration and intellectual bankruptcy. He added that due to the continuous erosion of public support, political restraint and decency are vanishing among Congress leaders.
He said the kind of language being employed by Congress leaders is incompatible with the dignity of Indian democracy. He further remarked that Congress’ predicament is such that it no longer retains the moral standing even to seek forgiveness from the citizens.
UP BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary said that the indecent and undignified remarks made by UPCC president Ajay Rai against PM Modi were reflective of the Congress party’s desperate mindset.
He asserted that this statement constituted an insult of not only the PM but also to the sentiments of the country’s 140 crore people, who view Modi as a symbol of the nation’s development, security, and dignity.
Describing Rai’s statement as “low-level,” Chaudhary said that the Congress party has today become completely politically directionless and devoid of public support.
“When they have nothing left to offer the public regarding issues such as development, good governance, welfare for the poor, nation-building, and public interest, their leaders resort to personal attacks and derogatory language to vent their frustration,” he said
Chaudhary noted that it was highly unfortunate that the very Prime Minister—who had publicly wished for Ajay Rai’s speedy recovery when the latter fell ill—is today being subjected to undignified language by the same Congress leader. The true face of the Congress party’s so-called “Mohabbat ki Dukan” has been completely exposed before the nation.
