Chabbewal new Phagwara AAP in-charge

Jalandhar: Aam Aadmi Party has appointed Hoshiarpur MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal constituency in-charge for Phagwara Assembly segment, which is part of his parliamentary constituency. The sitting MP replaced Harji Mann, son of former Congress minister Joginder Singh Mann, who was AAP candidate from Phagwara in the 2022 Assembly elections.It is for the first time that any party has appointed a sitting MP as an Assembly constituency in-charge, as this appointment effectively means that the fellow would be the candidate in the Assembly election.Mann has not reacted to the appointment.Started by the Shiromani Akali Dal when it was in power, the trend to appoint in-charges of the assembly constituencies was later picked up by the Congress and AAP.Dr Chabbewal's son Dr Ishank Kumar is MLA from Chabbewal, from where Dr Raj was Congress MLA earlier. He joined AAP ahead of the Parliament elections, and the seat was vacated after his election as MP.
